Quinta Brunson clutched the opportunity to get forward, clearing the air between herself and Jimmy Kimmel, who did a weird bit with Will Arnett, the best writer in a comedy series.
At the Emmys, not everyone giggled as Kimmel dwelled on his 2022 Emmys while Brunson’s speech.
After giving acceptance speeches, winners were directed to the Emmys media center, where reporters asked them questions.
Stars had wide-ranging responses to their wins.
Will Arnett passed out Kimmel onto the stage, with Arnett gagging to the public that this is the “13th time in a row that he’s failed, and he got into the slight margaritas around there.”
When Brunson moved to the stage to receive the prize for her ABC series Abbott Elementary, her first-ever Emmy, Kimmel, stayed onstage.
Arnett attempted Kimmel out of the way to have room for the winner, with Brunson telling him, “Jimmy, get up. I won.”
Kimmel appreciated but persisted in lying on the stage throughout the address, and it wasn’t until after Brunson was done that Arnett pulled him back off.
For her part, Brunson seemed to be good about the time, adding the late-night host’s name to the last of her gratitude list.
“The time didn’t bother me that much. I don’t understand what the social media considers,” Brunson said, counting Kimmel as her first ample late-night interview.
“At that wink, I was delighted that Jimmy was up there. I consider him one of the satirical godfathers,” she said. “I don’t understand. Tomorrow, maybe I’ll be furious at Jimmy. I will be on show on Wednesday so that I might punch his face.”
Brunson addressed the juncture backstage, stating it “didn’t concern me that much” but that she wasn’t confident about how the Internet and social media users might think.
Not all the people there appreciated Kimmel’s presence.
At the exact moment, Brunson delivered her heartfelt address, with several social media users recording that it didn’t seem to be a compliant judgment to stay on the stage during her significant moment.
Twitter exploded, pulling Kimmel to draw attention to Brunson’s first Emmy win.
“Kimmel not going to get out of Brunson’s way is a choice,” Andy Dehnart tweeted.
Author Ernest Owens tweeted, “Can’t lie; I’m still bothered that Kimmel’s irritating ass was on the ground trying to take concentration away from Brunson’s historic triumph.”
