Watching Heartstopper is like coming home and putting on slippers: the Netflix TV series based on Alice Oseman‘s bestselling comics is pure comfort.
It may be because she takes us back to adolescence, when the dramas were mainly confined to the crushes between school desks, or perhaps because everything takes place with simplicity, sweetness and optimism.
Not that the heartwarming moments are missing, but the queer love between Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, around which the story revolves, is natural and intuitive, so far removed from clichés and superstructures that it just makes us feel good.
Now the show scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and is about to return with its second season.
Netflix announced it on Twitter: the production of Heartstopper 2 has begun. The show was already confirmed for seasons 2 and 3, but nothing was known about the timing.
Oseman had talked about it on Instagram, writing: “I’d better get to work”, sharing a drawing by Charlie and Nick.

Now the Netflix UK profile announcement has arrived: “Season 2 is officially in production!.”
The story will continue to follow the emotional and sentimental formation of the two protagonists and their love story, which is still in its infancy.
At the same time, however, it will introduce new characters that will gravitate around Nick and Charlie, new experiences and new themes.
It has been confirmed that all of the show’s prominent cast members will return, including Yasmin Finney (Elle Argent), William Gao (Tao Xu), Corinna Brown (Tara Jones), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy Olsson) and Sebastian Croft (Ben Hope).
Heartstopper has a solid fanbase that has followed Oseman since his inception on Tumblr.
The first collection of strips by the British author was financed in a few hours on Kickstarter and then got noticed by the publishing houses and became a bestseller with millions of copies.
The Netflix show is directly inspired by Oseman’s books and will continue to follow the events so as not to betray the trust of early readers.
